Where to from here
Accessing mental health support can be challenging, particularly when stress levels are already elevated and more serious symptoms are beginning to manifest. This website helps to get the process started. Knowing where to begin is the first step. There is a misconception that only a professional or medications can fix the problem. Seeing a counsellor or therapist could be part of the plan, but should not necessarily be the first step. This website proposes some "first steps' recognizing that as much as 70 percent never avail themselves of counselling services for any number of reasons, time constraints, perceived stigma, costs etc. The second purpose of this website is to provide a series of self-helps to enable individuals to respond to their own needs in the absence or lack of timely availability of professional services. As such the entries and self helps are ordered in such a way as to allow a person to progressively learn, understand and apply strategies targeting particular needs and symptoms. in short, it is a prescriptive approach incorporating principles and strategies in a systematic way to reduce stress, sufficient to function normally. Allan’ advocates for services that are culturally integrated, equitable and accessible and founded on principles and skills in human relations that nurture, support and encourage positive change.
Self Helps
The Self Helps are divided into three categories; Background Information Signs and Symptoms and Strategies. These topics have been carefully chosen to appeal to large audiences as they provide a framework of basic principles and strategies on which to construct a practical plan for mental and emotional self-reliance

Wellbeing
Additionally, there is a section entitled Wellbeing. Once stress levels are under control the next step is to begin the process of building resilience or psychological hardiness by incorporating principles and practices in the pursuit of well-being. These will serve to provide a 'stress inoculation', a further protective measure to avoid relapses back to chronic stress.
Additional Supports
Some additional support may be required along the way. Exploring available options is the next step. Professional counselling services, self help groups, government agencies and charitable organizations provide a variety of services to address particular concerns and issues. Do not give up when initial efforts do not prove to be helpful. Mental health and wellbeing is now being recognized as an area requiring more focus, funding and community support.
